The "BREIZH AMERIKA COLLECTIVE" initiative brings together innovative musicians from Brittany, France and the United States of America to collaboratively work to create and produce original music, bring awareness to endangered traditions, while developing durable Transatlantic links of cooperation and understanding.
A marriage of music, traditions, and culture has been at the heart of the Collective's project, striving to incite American audiences to discover breton music but also allow musicians to interpret and mix different styles and sounds (Jazz, Celtic, World, Swing, Latin, Folk). Since its creation, the Breizh Amerika Collective has travelled to NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Detroit, San Diego, St Louis, Cleveland, Rochester, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Arnaudville and Scott, Louisiana to perform and share their music.
Breizh-Amerika in Breton language means Brittany-America (UNESCO lists Breton language as severely endangered).
Breizh Amerika Collective 2025
The Breizh Amerika Collective, an initiative launched in 2015, aims to forge ties between Brittany and the United States through music, bringing together artists from both sides of the Atlantic. Since its inception, the collective has explored bold musical encounters, blending Breton sounds with other American traditions to create a vibrant cultural dialogue.
This year, the collective, composed of Julien Le Mentec, Gweltaz Rialland, and Thibault Niobé, with the participation of Thomas Moisson, Lionel Prigent, and Lors Landat, joins forces with New Orleans jazz legends George Brown and Chantz Powell. Together, they fuse Breton rhythms and melodies with the energy of the iconic brass instruments of the jazz capital of the world. Imbued with the vibrant soul of New Orleans, George and Chantz infuse this collaboration with a unique intensity, resulting in bold and innovative compositions.
