This old house turned bar/restaurant/music venue, inspired by the charm of historic hotel bars and the intimacy of Louisiana house dances, provided the perfect backdrop for a night of enchantment – a Celtic Halloween celebration that would be etched into the memories of all who attended. Journeying Through Time and Tradition Hideaway on Lee, with its vintage allure, set the stage for a journey back in time, evoking the familiarity of a bygone era. The air was filled with anticipation as attendees gathered, embracing the blend of nostalgia and excitement that hung thick in the Louisiana night. The heart of the event was the captivating music that resonated through the venue, a fusion of Celtic melodies and the unique spice of Louisiana. Avoca, an Irish band rooted in Lafayette, Louisiana, brought the spirit of Ireland to the heart of Cajun country. With Tony Davoren leading on bouzouki, guitar, and bodhran, and the harmonious notes of Shannon Kelly and Pete Dawson on harp and flute, their tunes echoed through the night. From the rolling hills of Ireland to the Scottish highlands, and even across the waters to Nova Scotia, their music painted a vivid picture of Celtic heritage. Since 2015, Breizh Amerika has been organizing Breton and Celtic-themed events in the USA, enriching the American cultural landscape with their heritage. Breizh Amerika, a non-profit association deeply rooted in promoting Breton heritage, signed a partnership agreement with Celtic Bayou Festival, pledging to bring a touch of Breton presence – music, dance, and language – to the festival every two years. This partnership exemplified the essence of cultural appreciation and collaboration, fostering a connection that spanned continents and generations. Celtic Bayou Festival, an annual, family-friendly event nestled in the heart of Cajun country, continued to live up to its reputation as a celebration of Irish, Irish American, and other Celtic cultures. Brittany is coming to San Francisco for SamhainMusicians representing both sides of the Celtic world — from Ireland and Brittany — celebrate Samhain (pronounced sah-win), the Celtic festival marking the beginning of the 'darker half' of the year that eventually gave rise to Halloween here in the US. Celebrated in Brittany as Kalan Goañv, the festival marks the time of year when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld thins, when we remember and celebrate our recently departed — a strong and ancient Celtic complement to Día de los Muertos celebrations in San Francisco. Colm Ó Riain: Irish-born virtuoso violinist and his soulful band explore the connection between the worlds. West African percussion underpins plaintive Middle Eastern melodies, Flamenco duende drives jazz improvisations, all joined together with sparkling Irish fiddling and rhythmic bass. Colm is joined by Wade Peterson (percussion), Joe Kyle, Jr (bass) & Geoff van Lienden (guitar). “Ó Riain's fireworks display of virtuosity easily spans the diverse genres of gypsy, tango, jazz, blues and Irish music, all with his characteristic intelligence and pizazz" - the Irish Herald. Breizh Amerika Collective, featuring accordionist Thomas Moisson and guitarist Roland Conq travel from Brittany in France to San Francisco for this celebration. The Collective brings together innovative musicians from Brittany, France and the United States of America to collaboratively work to create and produce original music, bring awareness to endangered traditions, while developing durable Transatlantic links of cooperation and understanding. Moisson, considered one of the most talented accordionists of his generation, is joined by Roland Conq, one of the top guitarists in Brittany, both constantly embarking on unique musical journeys with musicians of other cultures and horizons.
