Brittany has managed to combine tradition and modernity to create many moments throughout the year to meet and have a good time. Every major town and village holds a festival to showcase and preserve local traditions. This is the region where the density of festivals is the highest, with 1 for 20 to 25,000 inhabitants. For this year we invite you to discover some emblematic festivals. List of festivals in Brittany Festival Folklores du Monde in Saint-Malo // July 5 to 10, 2022 Since 1996, the cultures of the world have come together in Saint-Malo. The Folklores of the World Festival introduces music and dance from all over the world. Many activities are planned throughout the festival: concerts, dance, street entertainment, shows. Fête des Islandais et des Terres Neuvas in Paimpol // July 10, 2022 Every year, the Icelandic and Newfoundland Festival brings the history of Icelandic fishermen to life. This festival, which already existed in the 1950s, celebrates the disappeared at sea, with in particular the throwing of wreaths at sea in memory of the disappeared. These are the Breton fishing areas closest to the United States. Festival de Cornouaille in Quimper // July 21 to 24, 2022 Heading into 100 years! The old timer of Breton culture festivals will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2023. To prepare for this anniversary, 2022 will be the edition of newness! Real headliner of the festival this year: the fest-noz, which will be highlighted in a new place. Pays Bigouden will be honored with the day on Thursday which will be entirely devoted to this cultural rich region south of Quimper.. Fête de la Crêpe in Gourin // July 29 to 31, 2022 The Crêpe Festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year! Concerts, festoù-noz, introduction to crepe making, tastings and of course the unmissable world competition for the biggest crepe! The Gourinoise Pascale Hénaff remains the undefeated champion of the competition since 2008, with a pancake 96 cm in diameter. Festival Interceltique de Lorient // August 5 to 14, 2022 Originally called the Fêtes des Bagpipes in 1971 for the first edition, then the Interceltic Bagpipes Festival in 1972 for the second edition, the Interceltic Festival took this name definitively in 1979. The Interceltic Festival has the celtic world as its oyster, it is "The traditional and contemporary meeting place of the Celtic nations". Each year a Celtic nation is highlighted and honored, 2022 is the year of Asturias. Le Festival des Filets Bleus in Concarneau // August 11 to 15, 2022 The Festival des Filets Bleus will celebrate its 100th edition this year! It was a charity event for sailors from Concarneau after a particularly difficult year in 1904. On the program for this 100th edition, a rich program: concerts, exhibitions, conferences, events. Festival de la Saint-Loup in Guingamp // August 16 to 21, 2022 Created in the 19th century, the Saint-Loup festival has been devoted to Breton dance since 1957. Since then, it has hosted the final of the national Breton dance championship. Each year, the festival offers entertainment, exhibitions, festoù-noz, competitions, with artists from all over the Celtic world. This year, Scotland and Occitania will be honored with a Brittany-Occitania evening and a Brittany-Scotland evening. Le Pardon de la Baule in La Baule // August 25 to 28, 2022 The first Pardon de la Baule took place in 1947. It was born from the attraction for its Breton roots: place names, architecture, songs, costumes, dances. It combines tradition and modernity: mass, parade, traditional dances, fest-noz and concerts enliven La Baule every year. In 2022, Pardon de la Baule will celebrate its 75th anniversary! Les Sonneurs de Gourin in Gourin // September 2 to 4, 2022 The first gathering of pipers in Gourin took place in 1956 as part of the Saint-Hervé celebrations. The Brittany pipers championship is always at the heart of the event, but other competitions enliven Gourin all weekend: free duets, traditional dancers, youth pipers and dancers and family bands, not to mention the festoù-noz, shows, and exhibitions. The 2022 edition will have a rich program around youth and transmission! Yaouank in Rennes // November 2 to 19, 2022 The first edition of Yaouank (meaning "young" in Breton language) took place in 1999. Yaouank is three weeks of Breton music and activities in performance halls and café-concerts in the city of Rennes. These three weeks of entertainment end with a fest-noz, which has become the biggest indoor fest-noz in Brittany! A land of festivals, Brittany also has an exceptional heritage. Gouelioù Breizh Gouelioù Breizh is a federation bringing together some forty organizers of festivals since 1964, for the promotion of Breton culture in all its forms of artistic expression, and located throughout Brittany in its 5 departments. Promoting, listening, advising and solidarity are its key words at the service of members and the public. Through its members, the federation represents 1,500,000 festival-goers, 6,500 volunteers, 90,000 volunteer hours, 70 events spread out throughout the year, not to mention the many other events organized by member federations of our federation: Kenleur (federation of Celtic circles), Kanomp Breizh (federation of choirs), Sonerion (federation of bagadoù), Kan Ar Bobl (competition of songs, music, storytelling throughout Brittany and elsewhere).
