What is Fête de la Bretagne ?
Fête de la Bretagne, also known as "Gouel Breizh" in Breton language, is an annual international festival that celebrates the culture, traditions, and identity of the region of Brittany in France. The festival takes place every year in May and is celebrated around the world, with events organized in various countries, including the United States.
Additionally, Fête de la Bretagne coincides with Saint Yves Day, who is the patron saint of Brittany. This makes it an important celebration for Bretons, similar to St. Patrick's Day for the Irish.
In the USA, the non-profit organization Breizh Amerika has been celebrating Fête de la Bretagne since 2015. The organization aims to promote cultural exchange between Brittany and the United States and organizes various events during the festival, including concerts, film screenings, and food fairs.
During Fête de la Bretagne, the streets of Brittany's towns and cities come alive with colorful parades, live music performances, and street parties. Visitors can enjoy traditional Breton food such as crêpes and galettes, as well as locally produced cider and beer.
